So, PBEM hits like 1% of people who fall out of of those generalizations. So, your players over 50 who are old enough to remember similar game methods of a by-gone era might be interested for nostalgia reasons. Anyone between 20-50 have day jobs and only have to time to play in the evenings - a narrow window of time that may not correspond with an email prompt. I don't know the demographics exactly, but anyone under 20 years old probably has no interest in that kind of slow pace.
